SROI Practitioner Training

27th & 28th February, Belfast

Showing the value of your organisation in real terms is increasingly important in the social sector. There is a growing importance on tangible evidence regarding social and environmental value, not just for organisations outwardly seeking to affect change in society but for any organisation or individual who wishes to be accountable for their work.

This course provides training to a level suitable for individuals who are considering doing a Social Return On Investment (SROI) analysis and who would like to become accredited SROI practitioners.  No prior experience is required.

Social Return on Investment (SROI)

SROI is an approach to understanding and managing the impacts of a project, organisation or policy. It is based on stakeholders and uses financial value of the important impacts identified by stakeholders to identify what is important to them.

It is a framework to structure thinking and understanding. It’s a story, not a number. The story should show how you understand the value created, manage it and can prove it.

Some benefits of SROI include:

§  A consistent and clear approach to understanding and reporting on the changes caused by an organisation, resulting in:

o   Better organisations with better strategies, systems and accountability

o   Organisations that are more able to manage risks, identify opportunities and raise finance required to achieve their mission or strategy.

Training will be facilitated by Gauge NI and delivered by an SROI Network accredited practitioner.

Joining instructions will include:

  • Venue details and directions
  • Preparation and reading
  • Confirmation of timing (normally, the first day will take place from 10am to 5pm, while the second day takes place from 9.30am to 4pm)

DAY 1is a practical, step-by-step introduction to the SROI process. We will begin with some theory but the process is best learnt by trying it, so trainees will learn how to develop an impact map – the heart of the SROI process – and explore the processes using an example appropriate to each trainee.

DAY 2covers, in more depth, the issues that traineeswill need to demonstrate an understanding of if theywish to become accredited SROI practitioners, specifically the issues of ‘documenting and reporting’. Although designed with the assurance process in mind, this course is suitable for anyone wanting more than just an introduction to SROI. Current issues will be discussed, best practice and techniques shared and examples explored.
