SpunOut.ie Announces Superhero Grants


SpunOut.ie, the well known youth organisation based in Galway, supported by The Atlantic Philanthropies, is launching a youth grants scheme to help young people make a positive difference in bringing about a better Ireland.

"It is not enough to be compassionate. You must act."

10 action grants of €250 each are up for grabs to individuals over 15 (you can also apply as a group) who has a great idea for an event or project that will lead to positive social change. Projects have to be completed within six weeks and ideas can run from organising a community clean-up to arranging for a group to go and participate as the audience on one of the political tv programmes.

Projects will be evaluated on their inventiveness, their value to society and on whether the idea is possible, achievable and well thought out. The deadline to apply is February 28 and details can be found on their website SpunOut.ie.

The 10 winners who complete their projects, not only will get their €250, but willSpunout.ie lgo also be put in a draw for the SpunOut.ie Superhero of the year 2011 with an extra cash prize of €500. They'll also get guidance on how to make social justice happen but best of all they will get free tickets for the Social Justice event of the year: The Possiblilities 2011 Social Forum on April 13 organised by SpunOut.ie, Children In Crossfire and Afri and where His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso will deliver a talk entitled ‘A Call For Universal Responsibility’. No wonder tickets sold out within a few days.

SpunOut.ie continues on its quest to spark that fire in all the young people out there and to challenge them to rise up and kick start a new era of people-powered social change, for in the words of the Dalai Lama  "It is not enough to be compassionate. You must act."
