New Radio Series Helps Listeners Be Active Citizens

A six-part educational radio series aimed at helping listeners become active citizens in their own lives goes to air at 9am on Sunday 15th May on RTÉ Radio 1 Extra, the digital station.  How to be an Active Citizen contains practical information about how government works and how to get your voice heard. In each half-hour programme, people working for change – many of them from the community and voluntary sector – share their experiences and offer advice.
The six topics covered in the series are: How to Vote; How to be a Citizen Watchdog; How to Work for Change; How to Work with Local Government; How to Speak Up; and How to Make the Most of Your Right to Know. The series was made by TASC (Think tank for Action on Social Change) and Aileen O’Meara Media. It is based on TASC’s Toolkit to Open Government – a set of ten citizen guides that are available online and to download.
How to be an Active Citizen, presented by Irish Times journalist Mary Minihan, is essential listening for members of The Wheel. You can listen online here
