Major Gifts Seminar on 25 November in Dublin

The European Association for Planned Giving (EAPG) will be hosting a morning seminar on the topic of "Major Gifts in Ireland" on 25 November in Dublin. The seminar will focus on such subjects as legal issues; gift/inheritance tax; cross-border donations and other key aspects of charity fundraising in Ireland.

Topics include:

  • Legal issues, including due diligence, legal capacity, developing your fundraising literature, and bequest clauses in wills.
  • The Irish gift/inheritance tax regime (including discretionary trust tax): Capital Acquisitions Tax Consolidation Act, 2003.
  • Transfer tax: S.82 Stamp Duties Consolidation Act, 1999.
  • Incentive scheme for donations to charities: S.848A and 26A Taxes Consolidation Act, 1997.
  • Tax treatment of assets after they are received by the charity.
  • Charity mergers, restructuring and reorganisation.
  • Dealing with Cross-border donors: the impact of the donor’s domestic tax regime and the role of intermediaries.

About Anne CorriganAnne is a Senior Associate in the Corporate and Commercial Department of Arthur Cox.  She specialises in advising on tax and legal issues arising in the use of trust and other structures in asset management and conservation, and in furtherance of charitable objects.  She is one of Ireland’s leading authorities on trust law, and advises trustees on the scope and nature of the powers available to them, as well as on their duties and obligations. Anne has presented papers at numerous conferences on trust and taxation issues. She is co-author of “Trust and Succession Law” (currently in its fourth edition; 2007) published by the Irish Taxation Institute.
