Impact Measurement: Grant to Fund Project

Social enterprises, charities and other voluntary organisations are facing many challenges in the current difficult economic climate having to provide for increased demand for services while incomes fall from statutory grants and public donations.  It has never been more important, therefore, for social organisations to focus their limited resources on maximising the impact and outcomes of their work for the vulnerable groups they serve.

The Wheel is delighted to report that we have been awarded £20,000 Sterling  by The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (UK) to scope a project to enable social enterprises and voluntary non-profit organisations to deliver positive social impacts and outcomes for the people they serve through adopting an increased focus on evaluation and  measurement.

The project will be led by The Wheel in Ireland and will involve us working with the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (The Wheel’s sister organisation in England) and an organisation in Portugal together with the European Association of National Civil Society Associations (ENNA) which will provide an important channel to disseminate new practice throughout Europe.

The project will result in a comprehensive assessment and evaluation of the:

  • adequacy of existing impact measurement practice and existing impact measurement tools, techniques and approaches applied in the not-for-profit sector in each country;
  • requirements for new tools;
  • techniques and approaches to optimally measure social impact and outcomes in each country; and identification of potential development and implementation partners in each country.
