Galway to host European Parliament event on Friday, 18 October 2013

The public and community and voluntary groups invited to attend a meeting at the Meyrick Hotel in Galway on Friday, 18 October to discuss priorities for the European Parliament. The outcome of the meeting - which is being organised by The Wheel, a national network of 930 community and voluntary organisations in association with the European Parliament Office - will be published and presented to the political parties and the candidates ahead of the 2014 European Parliament Elections.

The event will include presentations on the economy, the European social model and the environment delivered by experts Nat O'Connor (TASC), Robin Hannan (EAPN) and a representative of Environmental Pillar as well as a questions and answers session with Marian Harkin (MEP for the North West Region).

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Ivan Cooper, Director of Advocacy at The Wheel said: “Brussels may be a long way from Galway, but decisions taken by the European Parliament have a direct impact on local communities. This meeting is a unique opportunity for individuals and local groups to help shape the priorities of the European Parliament for the next five years,” said Mr Cooper.
