Based at: Derry-Londonderry (please note home-based within Ireland & UK will be considered)

Responsible to: CEO of Children in Crossfire

Contract: Part Time (3 Days Per Week)

Context

Children in Crossfire is an International NGO registered in Ireland, the UK, Tanzania and the USA that facilitates International Development and Development Education (DE)/Public Engagement (PE) activities.  Our vision is a compassionate world where every child can reach his or her potential. We work in partnership with local organisations in Tanzania and Ethiopia to improve the lives of the most disadvantaged young children, with a particular focus on Early Childhood Education. By improving access to early childhood education we are changing lives and empowering young children and their communities to build a better future. 

In Ireland, through both the formal and informal sector, Children in Crossfire focus on getting young people to engage with both local and global issues.  Through their ‘Educating the Heart’ programme, Children in Crossfire work to promote active global citizenship for good community development, peace building and reconciliation to build a better world from the local to the global.

Children in Crossfire are currently operating a 5 year rolling plan and wish to develop a Trusts & Foundations Fundraising strategy to support our programme of work in Tanzania, Ethiopia and Ireland as well as the core running costs of the organisation.  This strategy will lead to the expansion of our income from grant making bodies such as trusts and foundations and corporate donors.  Reporting directly to the CEO of Children in Crossfire, the successful applicant will develop and implement a Trusts & Foundations Fundraising Strategy and lead on all funding proposals to grant making bodies. To date we have successfully secured funds from a variety of bodies such as Irish Aid, UKAid, The Ireland Funds, Betterways Foundation, William A Cadbury Trust and a number of anonymous donors. 

Major Responsibilities

  1. To Develop a Trusts & Foundations Fundraising Strategy;
  2. Identify and secure funding from Trusts & Foundations;
  3. To ensure a successful relationship is developed and maintained with Trusts & Foundations.

Specific Responsibilities

  1. To Develop a Trusts & Foundations Fundraising Strategy:
  • Undertake primary and desk research to identify potential donors and maintain a current and prospective list of funders;
  • Develop and implement Children in Crossfire’s Trusts & Foundations Fundraising strategy;
  • Develop an action plan and timetable, ensuring the strategy is implemented; and
  • Agree and deliver realistic and achievable fundraising targets in line with the charity’s strategic goals.
  1. Identify and secure funding from Trusts & Foundations:
  • To develop and coordinate an effective management system to ensure ongoing flow of proposals is readily available;
  • Initiate and build relationships with new and existing Trusts & Foundations that will fund Children in Crossfire’s planned programme of work;
  • Match potential funding opportunities to specific services, projects and activities;
  • Proactively liaise with all relevant departments within Children in Crossfire to ensure relevant, ongoing applications are being submitted;
  • Prepare detailed, accurate and inspiring proposals, applications and bids in line with funding guidelines and policies specifically applying Children in Crossfire’s ‘cost recovery’ approach;
  • To proactively secure Trusts & Foundations who will support the core running costs of the organisation; and
  • Liaise with all departments in preparing and submitting effective monitoring and evaluation reports to funders in a timely manner.
  1. To ensure a successful relationship is developed and maintained with Trusts & Foundations:
  • Develop, update and maintain an effective trusts and foundations database to track donation patterns and assist with new fundraising opportunities;
  • Maintain relationships with existing Trusts & Foundations to provide effective oversight to ensure their ongoing support; and
  • Create new and innovative ways to increase and retain Trusts & Foundations.

Other

  • To ensure Children in Crossfire is represented in relevant Trusts & Foundations umbrella bodies as and when required.
  • Produce regular progress reports for the Executive Director and the Board of Trustees; and
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties to support the operations of the organisation as and when required.
  • Regular travel to Children in Crossfire’s Head Office will be expected.

Personal Profile

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Trusts & Foundations Fundraising Management role
  • Demonstrable experience of reaching significant annual income targets for a wide range of trusts, foundations, corporate bodies and institutional donors e.g. Comic Relief, Irish Aid & DFID
  • Educated to degree level
  • Demonstrable experience of developing fundraising strategies and operational plans that engage diverse audiences
  • Demonstrable evidence of knowledge and understanding of the charity, aid or development sector
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Experience of using a database, and advanced ICT skills
  • A good communicator with excellent organisation skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work to deadlines, prioritise and take initiative
  • Committed to the aims and values of Children in Crossfire, and work as part of the team
