Director of Membership Training and Development

Fórsa is seeking a Director of Membership Training & Development to develop and deliver union rep training programmes to empower Fórsa members.

The Director of Membership Training and Development leads the Fórsa Skills Academy in the development and delivery of comprehensive union representative training programmes to empower Forsa's members, representatives, and activists with the skills and knowledge needed to effect positive change for workers. 

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

Membership Training and Development

  • Develop, deliver, and review comprehensive representative training programme for the Skills Academy
  • Oversee robust quality assurance processes for all training delivered by the Skills Academy
  • Conduct regular training needs analyses across the Union membership to inform ongoing development
  • Expand the representative training programmes by including targeted training to support greater union participation and inclusive representation
  • Develop proposals for consideration for the establishment of a training centre to provide accredited training courses to meet the needs of members
  • Coordinate and support a network of Branch Training Officers 
  • Develop tools and supports, e.g. mentoring programmes/workbooks for Branch Executive Committees to assist them in supporting the training needs of their local workplace representatives
  • Develop training offerings, outside of the representative training programme, that are accessible, affordable and relevant to branches and members

Partnership and Collaboration

  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and share internal training expertise
  • Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with external providers, including other trade unions
  • Organise strategic training and information seminars for external stakeholders and decision makers on policy issues
  • Represent Fórsa at external training events and networks
  • Collaborate with the Director of Human Resources and Staff Development to identify shared needs and opportunities for members and Fórsa staff
  • Establish the Fórsa Skills Academy brand within and outside of the Irish trade union movement

Reporting and Budgeting

  • Prepare monthly reports for the National Executive Committee and others as requested
  • Manage the budget for the Fórsa Skills Academy
