Communications, campaigns and community development for the Cork Gay Project

The Cork Gay Project /  Cork Gay Community Development Company CLG is a community organisation that works with gay, bi, queer and trans* men in Cork, Ireland. The project hosts a number of support and social groups. It also runs one off workshops, talks and health / education initiatives and seeks to inform policy on a local, regional and national level.

The part-time Community Support Worker will assist the full-time Coordinator with the day to day running of the organisation. A core focus of the role will be in the areas of communications, campaigns and community development.  

Job Description

Duties include (but are not limited to:)


·      Helping to manage all of the organisation’s communications. This includes:

o   Developing and operating to a communication plan.

o   Developing the organisation’s brand.

o   Administering and updating the website and expanding social media.



·      Helping to develop the organisation’s campaigns. For example:

o   Developing new ways of highlighting issues, in particular the sexual and mental health of LGBTQ men.

o   Organising and attending LGBTQ awareness raising events, assisting with fundraising campaigns and information distribution.

o   Public speaking at schools and events.


Community Development

·      Working with others to build up LGBTQI+ community initiatives. This includes:

o   Supporting existing groups and community initiatives.

o   Helping to develop new community groups.

o   Outreach to members of the community to identify needs and respond accordingly.       

Application details: 



·      A graduate qualification in a discipline relevant to the work of the projector equivalent or 5 years experience.

·      A developed understanding of the LGBTQI+ community.

·      Exceptional communication and organisational skills.


·      Graphic design skills.

·      Experience of working in the community and voluntary sector.

·      Previous experience of working with or volunteering with an LGBTQI+ organisation.

·      Experience of designing and delivering low cost campaigns which have delivered results. 

·      Experience of volunteer management, group facilitation and community development.

·      Flexibility and adaptability.

Terms and conditions

1)    21 hours a week (0.6WTE), with the expectation of some evening and weekend work.

2)    One year fixed term part-time contract - post subject to probation period.

3)    €31,605 - €45,759 pro-rata 12 points. (Social care worker scale).
