Policy & CAMPAIGNS

Ireland’s community and voluntary organisations, social enterprises and charities play a big part in all our lives at a local, national and international level. The Wheel is working to create the conditions for the sector to maximise this contribution.

Nonprofit organisations face many challenges and opportunities in the way the sector is recognised, resourced and regulated.  This section of the website outlines the big issues and what we are doing to shape positive policies from the many stakeholders that can play a part in ensuring a thriving sector.

You can read a summary of our current policy positions in our most up-to-date Budget Submission.

We are working to create a new vision for the community and voluntary sector, informed by the needs and priorities of our members. You can view the findings of our most recent members’ policy survey here.

We remain committed to promoting active citizenship in Ireland, and In November 2019, The Wheel, in collaboration with Carnegie UK Trust, published the Participating People report. The report is the culmination of a series of consultations known as The People's Conversation, which examined the barriers to actively participating in society in Ireland. This project has seen hundreds of people take part in engaged discussions about what needs to change to create a truly inclusive and participative Ireland. You can find out more about the initiative here and read the report here.

Please contact the policy team if you have any comments or observations relating to our public policy and advocacy work.
