Session 1

10.00 - 11.15

Reforming public services to put the person at the heart of public services.

Irish people want European levels of social services yet Ireland’s tax-take is still 15% below the European average.  How can we reform public services to provide the services we need? How can we put the person at the heart of our public services? What part does shared social responsibility play in all of this?  What role can the community and voluntary sector play in all of this? What can community and voluntary organisations teach us all about governing in the public interest?
SEAN HEALY (Social Justice Ireland)
EDDIE MOLLOY (Director, Advanced  Organisation)
IVAN COOPER (Director of Advocacy, The Wheel)
This session will also include a panel discussion, Q&A with attendees and also video case studies  showcasing the innovative work that charities, community and voluntary organisations are doing to protect the most vulnerable people from the effects of the social and economic crisis.

Session 2

11.45 - 13.00

Demonstrating Effectiveness: Measuring and communicating impact and outcomes.
Community and voluntary organisations often talk about the special person-centred quality of our work – but do we have the evidence to prove the value of our approach? Can we demonstrate the outcomes of our work? Or do we just count outputs? With funding so tight, we need to be sure that we are living up to our claims. Let’s take a closer look at measuring what we are doing.
SEAN COUGHLAN (Chief Executive Officer, Social Entrepreneurs Ireland)
STUART ETHERINGTON (Chief Executive Officer, National Council for Voluntary Organisations, UK)
