The Wheel publishes detailed analysis of McCarthy Report
The Wheel has released a detailed analysis of the proposals of An Bord Snip Nua. The analysis, which can be downloaded here (PDF 156KB), concludes that the Special Group on Public Service Numbers and Expenditure Programmes´ recommendations are based on a narrow economic analysis that takes insufficient account of the social impact of proposed cutbacks. The Wheel believes that if implemented, these recommendations will decimate public services and the social infrastructure and impose a wholly disproportionate share of the burden of adjustment on poor and vulnerable people. Moreover, the report also fails to recognise the cumulative impact that cuts across many different public services will have on individual end-users. We are currently advocating through several forums, including the CV Pillar of social partnership, to protect our members' interests and to promote a coherent policy framework and a national development strategy for the community and voluntary sector. |
