Open Training College
The Open Training College was established in 1992 and provides learning opportunities for front line staff and managers working in the Non-profit sector. The College has enrolled in excess of 2,600 students from around Ireland.
The Open Training College offers a range of courses for those working in the Non-profit/Human Services sector, from three-day workshops to degree programmes in the areas of applied management or Applied Social Studies.
The College also offers in-service training and consultancy work for agencies, trans-national project work, seminars and conferences, and other third level institutions.
The College uses a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) to support students with their studies. This provides a range of learner supports including discussion boards, online study groups, email contact with tutors and other students, links to useful websites and reading matter, online journal entries, and quizzes and activities.
Students are provided with high-quality open learning materials. These are regularly updated to ensure that reading and learning activities are relevant to contemporary practice in the Non-profit/Human Services area.
Each course is modular where each new module begins with the release of material online, followed by various supports offered to students to suit their learning style. One such support is the attendance at a skills workshop. The content of the workshop relates directly to material in the corresponding open learning module. Outside presenters and members of the College team facilitate these workshops which are carried out in different venues. These workshops give students a chance to get to know each other and work together on activities in a stimulating face-to-face environment.
Students are allocated an individual tutor for the year. Regular contact is maintained through telephone tutorials during which any or all of the following areas may be discussed:

All Open Training College tutors have at least 5 years practical front line agency experience in the Non-profit/Human services sector. Brief individual biographies of the management team can be viewed on http://www.opentrainingcollege.com/site/about-us/staff/
