The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which comes into effect on 25 May, 2018, raises challenges for charities at the executive level and at the front-line. It will require organisations of all types to review their management of data about people.
 
However, GDPR also brings opportunities for organisations to improve how they manage information and improve efficiencies.

Ensuring that your organisation is adhering to current data protection laws and best practices is a crucial element when it comes to protecting yourself from potentially risky outcomes.  

 

This full day workshop will provide attendees with both a high level overview of Data Protection Legislation and your obligations plus a clear understanding of the practical next steps you need to take to meet them. 

 
The workshop will walk the participants through:
  • Understanding the GDPR from a strategic perspective
  • Understanding the key changes in the GDPR
  • Developing an understanding of the actions charities need to take to improve compliance
  • Understanding what you need to do to make the GDPR work for your organisation.
Participants will receive a range of resources and templates to compliment the training.

Part 2: 2.00 - 5.00pm
Interactive Round-table Discussion
Structured small group discussions of various key GDPR compliance challenges for charities, facilitated by a Sytorus subject matter expert to address the issues.
 
Topics to be explored include:
  • Consent and Direct Marketing in the Charity Sector
  • Data Security and Volunteers
  • Completion of Data Processing Logs
  • Managing a Subject Access Request
Please note: For participants who have attended The Wheel's half-day GDPR briefings in 2017, the morning session will refresh your understanding of the GDPR context, while also updating you on the latest developments in guidance from the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner.
