Course details: 

This Sectoral HR Forum for members of The Wheel will facilitate sharing of best practice in HR and Employment Law research and thinking.

This forum supports continuous peer-learning in HR and Employment Law for individuals and organisations and the development of a network amongst HR professionals in the sector.

Format:

  • Discussion of HR and Sectoral Trends/Issues
  • Review of recent case law and recent changes to employment legislation.

Attendees are encouraged to email on any items they would like included on the Agenda in advance to Tom McDonagh at tmcdonagh@adarehrm.ie

Topics already emerging include:

  • Important recent legislative updates and planning for 2018 - from Zero Hour Contracts of Employment and the Employment (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2017 to Retirement, including the Industrial Relations Act 1990 (Code of Practice on Longer Working) (Declaration) Order 2017.

  • Pay in 2018 and beyond – the wider considerations and risks, including sleep-over allowances for Section 39 workers.

  • GDPR and HR records – what to retain or not to retain.

  • Notable case law in 2018 – from Bullying and Harassment in the workplace (including Michael Lyons V Longford Westmeath Education and Training Board) to Disciplinary matters and Dismissal (including DHL Express (Ireland) LTD V Michael Coughlan).

Tom McDonagh, Senior HR & Employment Law Consultant, is an experienced Human Resource and Employment Law practitioner. 

Prior to joining Adare Human Resource Management, Tom worked with Organisations in the Financial & Professional Services area, including EY (formerly known as Ernst & Young) and State Street Bank. Tom has a wide variety of practical experience across all areas of Human Resource Management and Employment Law.
