Course details:

Some websites work, and some don’t. One of the surefired ways of making sure your site is getting the message across is by applying the tried and tested techniques of usability.

The requirements? A pen and paper along with an open mind, as we undergo a re-education in how to write for online audiences.

Focus

Many of the techniques learned will equally apply to Facebook posts or tweets. Increasingly, the same content will go out across all platforms.

Many of the techniques learned will equally apply to Facebook posts or tweets. Increasingly, the same content will go out  across all platforms.

Form and content are closely linked online of course, but writing changes are cheap and easy to make and can deliver big benefits.

Learning Focus

Participants will be learning:

  • The science of Web usability (so we can understand how people read on the Web)
  • How to apply this knowledge to your organisation’s website and
  • Ways to identify edits and improvements
  • How to use a Web writing style guide to re-write content
  • How to apply the principle of less is more to your Web writing
  • Some tips for implementing needed changes to your site.

The workshop will also include ample time for a Questions & Answers session, to ensure that you are confident in your grasp of all that you will have learned.

"I'd rate myself now a very much more informed intermediate level than I was. I thought this was an excellent workshop with really practical tips and nuts and bolts rules. We got pointers for online resources that would help too. I thought Claire was really knowledgeable and it was a really informative workshop". - L. Alford, 3Ts

"I found it very interesting and informative and having the knowledge on what to do and not to do will be a big bonus for us". - T. Russell, Daughters of Charity Child and Family Service

"Claire Cronin's Content Writing workshop was interesting, useful and informative. She facilitated some really good discussions about what does and doesn't work in online content, and her style was visual and engaging".- T. Groves, Trocaire
