Certificate of Competence in Workplace Noise Risk Assessment
Moloney & Associates, Acoustic & Environmental Consultants, is an accredited centre for this Institute of Acoustics (IOA) Certificate of Competence Course.
The course covers all of the key theoretical and practical aspects of workplace noise exposure and assessment and develops the skill and expertise of the delegate in a structured and user-friendly format.
Established in 1994, Moloney & Associates have provided Noise, Vibration & Environmental Consultancy and expert witness services to many industries, engineering & construction companies, insurance companies and state agencies. We have undertaken assessments for Building Acoustics, Environmental Licensing, Planning Control/Impact Assessment and for litigation purposes. We have presented expert evidence at Inquiries, Oral Hearings and at Trials. We are also an accredited training centre for IOA courses in Occupational Noise and Environmental Noise and we have provided bespoke training courses to may clients.
The aims of this IOA course are twofold:
1. To enable delegates to appreciate the nature of noise hazards in the workplace and the need to protect the hearing of employees, and
2. To enable delegates to advise and assist employers to meet statutory duties relating to noise in the workplace.
The IOA Certificate of Competence in Workplace Noise Risk Assessment is run over 5 days and the courses are scheduled to tie in with specified IOA exam dates. The next scheduled Examination Date is 4 November 2011 and the course will be scheduled and presented during October 2011 (dates to be confirmed). There will be a tutorial and revision on the morning of the exam (4 November 2011).
This IOA approved course provides first class tutoring and training from experts in the field and may allow participants to develop a rapid pathway into a career in acoustics.
After completing the course, candidates should be able to:
- Explain the requirements of the current legislation and regulations.
- Understand the elements of a noise risk assessment, and the part that noise exposure assessment plays.
- Make satisfactory measurements of noise levels in workplaces.
- Assess daily noise exposure levels of employees from information about noise levels and work patterns.
- Advise on the components of a noise action plan.
- Select suitable hearing protection.
- Identify areas where noise reduction is required and discuss basic noise control techniques.
- Assess the effectiveness of noise control measures.
This IOA course is suitable for managers, supervisors, engineers, technical/scientific personnel, safety representatives, HR professionals, safety officers and/or consultants who have an interest in or responsibility for managing the risks associated with exposure to noise. In addition, any personnel, whose responsibility may require them to have a working knowledge of noise measurement and an appreciation of noise control techniques/methods will benefit from the course.
