Employment Law

To provide participants with knowledge of component parts of Employment Law and an appreciation of how Employment Law principles work in practice. Participants who successfully complete this course will develop an in-depth understanding of the statutory frameworks which regulate the employer/employee relationship.

Family Law

Purpose

To help participants become better informed about the legal framework through which family matters are dealt with in the Irish legal system and to impart a basic understanding of the rights and entitlements of the child and family under Irish and international law. Participants are supported by the Northside Community Law Centre’s community education coordinator and tutors. Participants will also get an opportunity to visit the Family Courts and participate in a question and answer session with a representative of the Courts Service.

Data Entry

Purpose

To equip learners with a thorough working knowledge of data entry functions enabling efficient and accurate data input. This typing course aims to enable students to use the keyboard with proficiency and ease and to introduce them to the use of computers.

Participants must be willing to practise.

Fire Warden

Purpose

Fire Wardens are the buffer between company staff and management whose purpose is to prepare plans to cope with emergencies. The role of a Fire Warden will vary due to factors such as the type of industry, the scale of the premises, the number of staff employed and hazards specific to a particular industry.

Fire Prevention

Purpose

Everybody is the workplace has a duty to lessen risk and prevent accidents and individual employees should have some level of training in fire prevention. This programme will impart an understanding of basic fire prevention through practical tips on how to minimise the risk of fire. Participants will get a chance to use fire extinguishers appropriate to their workplace. This half-day course is flexible enough to accommodate all industry types.

Manual Handling

Purpose

To reduce the risk of manual handling injuries in the workplace. The workshop provides participants with the knowledge and skills to effectively identify, assess and control risks arising from manual handling tasks.

FAS Safe Pass

Purpose

To provide course participants with the skills, knowledge and attitudes that will enable them to work on construction sites without being a danger to themselves or others.

ECDL - European Computer Driving Licence

Purpose:

To provides a standard certification of the competence of computer users. The European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL), the world’s most successful IT skills certification programme, is so successful that it has spread outside Europe as the International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) and it is now a worldwide standard.

Nutrition and Health

Purpose

To provide information on nutrition, food and diet in relation to health and wellbeing. Whether you are a busy mother caring for a family, a busy employee or manager or a retired person you cannot function as you should without good health. Good nutrition is essential and a good understanding of food and nutrition is especially important to anyone involved in the provision of food or healthcare. This is a one-day course.

Food Hygiene

Purpose

To give students an overview of basic procedures in food handling and hygiene. This course is designed to be interactive and gives practical advice and tips for staff to follow during their daily work routines in hotels, restaurants, canteens and anywhere food is handled and prepared. Everyone who handles food as part of their job needs some level of training under current guidelines from the Food Safety Authority.
