Certified Mediation Training - Mediators’ Institute of Ireland Approved Programme

O’Sullivan Solutions delivers Mediators Institute of Ireland approved  Certified Mediation Training Programme every spring and autumn. 

It covers workplace; community; and civil and commercial disputes. An adapted versionhas been delivered by Gerry O'Sullivan in the University of Limerick to participants from the UL “Masters in Arts: Peace and Development Studies” programme.  This training includes assessment for accreditation with the Mediators’ Institute of Ireland.

Part funding for participants is available if they satisfy particular criteria.

Maximum number of participants is 6 – 8.

If you pass this assessment you will be able to apply to the Mediators’ Institute of Ireland to practice as a “Certified Mediator”. The MII is the professional body for Mediators in Ireland, North and South.  

Costs:

€1,990 (With additional €250 for those who wish to participate in the Mediators’ Institute of Ireland assessment process)

Training Location                          

Maharees, Castlegregory, Co.Kerry. The training will be based in the training facilities of the Harbour House and Leisure Centre, Maharees, equipped with swimming pool and sauna. Accommodation is reasonable at a special course rate of €35 per night.  See www.maharees.ie   for more details.Maharees is surrounded by sea on three sides and is breathtaking in its beauty. The course schedule will allow time for walking on the beaches, surfing, trip to the Island etc.

From Dublin, there are 3 flights and 7 trains per day. Arrangements can be made for collection from the railway station and airport.

O'Sullivan Solutions Training experience

Gerry O'Sullivan has over 23 years experience in training and in conflict resolution work. She has a 1st Class Honours Diploma in Adult and Continuing Education from NUI Maynooth and she has worked as an assessor of trainers for that body. She has also worked in the identification of training needs for students of Maynooth. She has delivered Training for Trainers programmes, she has provided Support and Supervision for trainers and she has adapted training programmes for radio presentation.  Gerry has delivered mediation training in the University of Limerick to participants from the UL “Masters in Arts: Peace and Development Studies” programme.

Qualifications

  • Practitioner Member of the Mediators’ Institute of Ireland and certified in Organizational & Workplace Mediation, Community Mediation and Civil & Commercial Mediation.
  • Co-delivered Interest Based Bargaining (Management and Union Negotiations) and attended training with INCORE, University of Ulster, on theEvaluation and Assessment of Peace Interventions.
  • Assisted in delivery of Commercial Mediation training in Beograd, Serbia and assisted in the establishment of a Mediators Beyond Borders Chapter in Beograd University. Part of the work in Serbia was researching the peace building needs of Serbs living in Kosovo.
  • Participated in “Mediation Training in Post-Conflict Countries” with CSSP, Berlin and is on their panel of mediators.
  • She is a member of the Irish Commercial Mediator’s Association and is a panellist mediator with Friarylaw (ADR U.K.), Dublin for Civil & Commercial Mediations. Gerry is trained in the conduction of Investigations into Bullying & Harassment. She is on an approved panel of consultants with the Equality Authority delivering training and consultancy through Equality at the Level of Enterprise.

Overall Training Aim

Participants will understand the concept of mediation and the framework required for carrying out professional and effective mediations. They will develop skills for mediating between parties in different contexts and will be prepared for MII assessment.

Training Objectives

Participants will:

  • Understand the core concept of mediation, its procedure and practice.
  •  Develop the core competencies necessary for mediating a dispute.
  • Learn methods and techniques for identifying the core of the conflict.
  • Be able to identify their own style of handling conflict and the changes they may need to make.
  • Learn how to empower disputants to move to resolution.
