LYCS Local-Global Trainers’ Project - Adding a whole new world to your work in the community

LYCS Local-Global Trainers’ Project:Adding a whole new world to your work in the community

This is an exciting new training project run by LYCS, a Dublin community organisation with 25 years experience of linking local and global issues as a way of enhancing community development.

It involves four training days and facilitation work in your workplace, and runs from 21 May to 11 September. It is open to those with positions in community sector organisations, paid or voluntary.

Why should you do this training?

  • Quickly Expand Your Community Work Skills:This work, known as ‘development education’, can complement and enhance your community development or community education work. It is creative, experiential, and learner-centered and is all about social change.
  • Not only theory - also practical experience and on-going support:The training involves finding out how to do this work, and having the experience of doing it! And we are always there to help you and your organisation work on incorporating a global perspective into the future.
  • Empower your groups to become agents for positive change, here and abroad: At LYCS we have seen that participants in development education tend to become more involved in their own communities and tend to take action on global issues. In and increasingly interdependent and unequal world, it is vital that ordinary people can understand issues that affect their lives and the lives of others.

Why link the local to the global?

Linking local and global issues makes sense. We live in an increasingly interconnected and unjust world, and the sources of and solutions to our struggles often lie elsewhere. When we become inspired to widen our focus and understanding, we can inspire others too. From the debt crisis to the global drugs trade and from inequality to food issues, you will learn the skills to empower your participants with a greater understanding of the world they live in and how to change it.
