The Health Service Executive (HSE) was established in January 2005 as the single body responsible for meeting Ireland's health and social care needs.

Medical Secretarial Secretarial (FETAC) Level 5

The specific learning outcomes are not grouped into units.


·       Explain a range of commonly used medical terms with accuracy.


·       Demonstrate the ability to spell medical terms in the context of medical correspondence from recorded speech or transcription from shorthand dictation.


·        Interpret instructions correctly.


·       Enhance ability to confidently use correct medical terms orally or in writing


·       Demonstrate ability to use a typewriter or word processor efficiently to transcribe material from recorded speech or shorthand dictation.


·       Recognise the importance of correct usage of medical terms.


·       Improve technique in spelling through effective use of a medical dictionary.


·       Demonstrate ability to use MIMS (Monthly Index of Medical Specialities) in order to locate correct spelling of drugs.


·       Demonstrate competence in producing mailable documents with a medical content with speed and accuracy.


·       Demonstrate a theoretical and practical knowledge of basic First Aid Practices.

MA in Ethics (Joint Programme with DCU)

The Programme

The Institute of Ethics at Dublin City University (DCU) together with Mater Dei Institute of Education (MDI) are pleased to announce a newly-accredited joint Master of Arts in Ethics.

This MA in Ethics programme provides participants with knowledge, skills and competence to examine ethical issues, challenges and dilemmas in professional and public life from a wide spectrum of ethical worldviews and theories. The programme provides participants with a grounding in the foundations of ethics, human rights and social justice. Participants will also develop the necessary ethical analysis and decision-making skills to apply ethical perspectives and principles to real-life and professional dilemmas. As such the programme aims to "add value" to continuing professional development.
