Developed by Miller and Rollnick, Motivational Interviewing is a client-centered approach that elicits behavioral changes by assisting individuals to explore and resolve ambivalence.
 
This approach is especially helpful with individuals who are less motivated. Research has shown Motivational Interviewing to be helpful with a wide range of client groups and issues.
 
This two day intermediate course will equip the attendees with a sound understanding of Motivational Interviewing theory and skills and will build on the theory and skills gained in the 2 day introduction course.

FETAC Level 5 Drug and Alcohol Addiction: Galway - April 24 to June 29 2012

The FETAC Level 5 Component Certificate in Drug and Alcohol Addiction is designed to equip staff in drugs and/or homeless services and those engaged in community development with the competencies and knowledge necessary to meet the various needs of substance users and to assist them in making choices regarding treatment options.

This multi-disciplinary module operates under Adult Education Principles focusing on experiential learning. Essentially this FETAC Drug and Alcohol Addiction Course covers 5 main areas:

  1. Psycho-pharmacology 
  2. Understanding Addiction and Dependency 
  3. Health Issues 
  4. Engagement Skills and Interventions 
  5. Attitudes

This drug and alcohol addiction course at FETAC level 5 on the National Framework of Qualifications takes place over 10 weeks with 3 hours of lectures per week. 30 hours total classroom time.

Introduction to Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Workshop: May 24 & 25 2012.Dublin.

All Hallows College, Drumcondra. Dublin. 9.30- 4.30pm

Learning Outcomes:

The objective of the two days is to provide the theory of Solution Focused Brief Therapy and the space to practice the skills associated with Solution Focused Brief Therapy

Content:

  • Equip participants with the tools to develop and build on their own counselling skills.
  • Build on and expand existing knowledge, in relation to Solution Focused Brief Therapy within the group.
  • Enhance confidence in participants use of Solution Focused Brief Therapy Skills.
  • Become familiar with the theory of Solution Focused Brief Therapy
  •  Provide space and time for participants to become familiar with Solution Focused Brief Therapy and use of its core skills.

Facilitator:

Seán Foy (LCI Course Director) has worked in the caring professions for over 18 years and possesses an in-depth knowledge and experience in the delivery of a broad range of education.

He holds:

  • Diploma in Drug Dependence from the Maudsley Hospital in London
  • Honours degree in Social Work
  • Masters in Addiction studies from Middlesex University 
  • Higher Diploma in Education
  • Seán qualified as a psychotherapist in 2006, having first trained in Motivational Interviewing in 1994
  • He is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) after training with Bill Miller and Steve Rollnick
