Online payment systems. I'm trying to set up a facility to accept online payments, so we can start selling our publications online. What is the best service to use? With easy set-up, and minium cost.

Hi,You've a few options, each
Hi,
You've a few options, each with pros and cons.
Paypal
You could go Paypal - it's relatively straightforward to set up because you don't need a merchant bank account. That means that you've only one service provider to deal with, i.e. Paypal.
The downside of Paypal is that - the last time I checked - the per transaction fee is higher than the other options.

The other downside is that the branding of the actual payment collection page is branded Paypal.
Realex
www.realex.com We use Realex for online transactions. They are the big payments processor in Ireland, and an Irish company. The good thing is the page when people actually enter their credit card details can have your branding. They will also provide a rather good online credit card terminal for taking payments over the phone.
The downside of Realex is that you need to set up a merchant bank account, which can be tricky, depending on your bank. Also, you may end up having several bills from different service providers, e.g. Realex for the online payments, someone else for the facility to take credit cards at all, your bank, etc.
Worldpay
Not unlike Realex, Worldpay is another payments processor, big in the UK. Again, you need a merchant bank account for Worldpay. www.wordpay.com
Other options
There will be other options, e.g. when Google Checkout starts in Ireland that'll be a big contender - there are loads of processors out there.
You could, alternatively, skip being a merchant, and use somebody else's shop. BigCartel (http://bigcartel.com/) lets you set up a shop and sell and is meant to be pretty easy to do. I've no personal experience of it though.
