WANTED - Amazing young people with LGBT parents

Marriage Equality is always looking for ordinary people to share their stories.  It’s a great way to help increase visibility of same sex families in Ireland, show people that marriage equality matters and help to explain why it matters.

Marriage Equality has heard it time and time again... in successful campaigns like the recent U.S. wins in Washington State, Maine and Maryland, and at home from TDs, journalists and producers - real stories have the power to change hearts and minds.

What better way to help a viewer or a reader understand the need for equality for same sex couples, your families and your children than by helping ordinary couples, families and children share their stories and explain why marriage equality is so important to them?

The voices of young people with lesbian and gay mums and dads are an important part of this story and can sometimes best counter the arguments against marriage equality.  As one of the participants in our Voices of Children research said: “Everyone talks about us, but no one asks us”.

At Marriage Equality, we believe the best people to speak for children of same sex couples are the children themselves!

That is why we’re organising a training day for young people with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender parents.  With our specialist media trainer, you’ll learn how to share your story in newspapers, on the radio and on television – just like our supporter Conor (below)!  He was featured with his parents in the Sunday Life Magazine last September.

Training will be held at The Office of the Ombudsman for Children (Millennium House, 52-56 Great Strand Street, Dublin 1 – near the Jervis Luas stop) on Saturday, 9 February 2013. Lunch will be provided, and if you’re not based in Dublin, Marriage Equality is happy to cover travel expenses within Ireland as well.  Extra dates may be added depending on interest and availability.

So if you’re over 18, have LGBT parent(s), want to share your story and make an important difference in the campaign for equality for ALL families… get in touch! Call Marriage Equality on 01 873 4183 or email Kirsten@marriagequality.ie now to reserve your place today.
