Common Room Free Lunchtime Talk with City Artsquad
This discussion is aimed at artists who are currently working with community groups or interested in working within the community arts area in the future. Artists from City Artsquad will present a talk on the various projects they have been involved with and how you can develop your practice through community arts projects. Four artists from City Artsquad, Enda Flynn, Harry Walsh, Eoghain Phelan and Ulrika Holmvkist will discuss their experiences of working on creative projects with different communities.
Topics include a background to the organisation, the services offered by City Artsquad, examples of past and present projects by artists of different disciplines, the benefits/challenges artists face with working with different groups. Discussion will also cover how artists can apply to work with City Artsquad and their existing connections with groups and organisations.
City Artsquad is located in the Liberties College Dublin 8, it was first established in 1990 after an initiative taken by the Artists Association of Ireland and the Sculptors Society of Ireland. The project is sponsored by the City of Dublin VEC and is funded by the Department of Social Protection under community employment.
City Artsquad employs 15 artists from diverse disciplines. It is a creatively stimulating, cultural organisation that works within the community. It gives opportunities to artists to work with groups on projects that are mutually beneficial. It focuses strongly on enabling artists to seek new opportunities and to find employment in their chosen field. The project engages with hospitals, Youth clubs, schools and colleges, homeless projects and afterschool clubs. The work is challenging yet rewarding and inspiring.
