Best practice approaches to early psychosocial care
following trauma and disaster: This workshop will cover
specific interventions following traumatic events and
outline the range of normal reactions, problematic
reactions including PTSD, the principles of the theoretical
basis of PTSD, the basic epidemiology of traumatic stress
disorders and an evidence based approach to the
prevention and treatment of post traumatic disorders.
Professor Jonathan Bisson, is a consultant psychiatrist
and director of Research and Development for Cardiff
University School of Medicine and Cardiff and Vale
University Health Board. He is an active researcher,
clinician and teacher in this area. His research has
contributed to the current guidance regarding single
session psychological interventions following traumatic
events and the adoption of a stepped care model to treat
those affected who go on to develop psychiatric disorder.
His work on early interventions following traumatic events
has shaped thinking internationally.
