Youth Employability Initiative Under Dormant Accounts Fund

There's still time for eligible organisations to apply for The Department of Children and Youth Affairs new Youth Employability Initiative 2015/2016. This €600,000 Initiative will provide grants to voluntary youth services for programmes that target disadvantaged young people to improve their employability. 

Background

Over 380,000 young people participate in youth services, programmes and clubs throughout the country. Young people who engage in youth work activities have the opportunity to attain specific skills which can enhance employability. These skills include learning to learn, social and civic competence, leadership, communication, teamwork, and entrepreneurship. These are the ‘soft skills’ that are relevant and applicable to industry and valued and sought after by employers. 

The new Youth Employability Initiative will target those young people who are most at risk of unemployment and who are not in education, employment or training and provide programmes for them to enhance these skills.   It is anticipate that up to 20- 25 new youth projects and an estimated 200-300 young people could be assisted under the programmes.

Who Can Apply?

The initiative is open to voluntary youth organisations or services currently in receipt of funding under the following schemes administered by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs (DCYA):

  • Special Projects for Youth 
  • Young people’s Facilities and Services Fund 1 & 2
  • Local Drugs Task Force Scheme 
  • Youth Information Centres
  • Youth Service Grant Scheme.

Applications from services/projects funded under the Special Projects for Youth Scheme, Youth Information Centres, Young People’s Facilities and Services Fund and Local Drugs Task Force must be submittedto the local Education and Training Board by 5 November 2015.  ETB Youth Officer contact details are listed in Appendix A of the application form (link below).

ETB Youth Officers will then submit these applications to the Department of Children and Youth Affairs by the Initiative deadline i.e. 5pm on Thursday 12 November 2015.

For National Youth Organisations:
National youth organisations submit their applications directly to the Department of Children and Youth Affairs by the 5pm on Thursday 12 November 2015.
