Save Money & Reduce Waste with a SMILE

SMILE Resource Exchange is a free service for businesses that encourages the exchanging of resources between its members in order to save money, reduce waste going to landfill and to develop new business opportunities. SMILE stands for Saving Money through Industry Links & Exchanges.

Potential exchanges are identified through networking events, an online exchange facility (www.smileexchange.ie)  and a support team to assist throughout.

At exchange events and through the website, businesses can identify resources they would like to exchange such as reusable items, by-products and surplus products etc.  All resources offered are either free of charge or below market value. Following a six month pilot phase in Cork in 2010/2011, the initiative expanded into Limerick, Clare and Kerry in October 2011 and most recently expanded into Dublin in September 2012, launched by An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny.  It is open to businesses in all sectors and of all sizes.

The initiative is funded  by the Environmental Protection Agency (under the National Waste Prevention Programme), Local Enterprise Boards and Local Authorities and is project managed by Macroom E (www.macroom-e.com).
