Record Support for Know Your Neighbour Weekend

A record number of 'Know Your Neighbour' events were hosted over the past weekend in communities across Ireland.

The Macra na Feirme initiative, which is now in its fifth year, encourages people to get to know your neighbours by organising events such as barbecues and tea parties.

This was also the first year that The Wheel partnered with Macra na Feirme on the initiative. On Friday afternoon, The Wheel hosted a community event in Inchicore (Dublin 8) for residents and representatives from community groups in the area. Local children were entertained with an arts workshop, while the adults enjoyed a cuppa, a chat and a live Spanish guitar recital.

Many of the weekend's events raised money for local charities. The President of Macra na Feirme, Michael Gowing, says the initiative helps to prevent divisions in local communities. See www.knowyourneighbour.ie for more, or watch a video of the launch of this year's campaign.
