"Charities lose out on much needed funds as bogus collectors trawl the country"

The Garda have instructed IDS on what procedures that they must follow when they receive notification of bogus collections taking place.

  1. The person must report directly to the Garda (ID cannot do this on their behalf)
  2. The person witnessing the collection must report it directly to the Garda.
  3. As much information as possible, description, detail, time etc.
  4. Report the incident to the (IDS) so they can then follow it up.
  5. The IDS do not do door to door collections.
  6. The IDS asks for your own safety that you do not approach these collectors, leave this to the Garda.
