Ireland’s Data Protection Bill 2018 Published

The first is the Data Protection Bill 2018, published on 1 February 2018. The Bill gives effect to two new EU regulations: GDPR and a regulation on the processing of personal data for law-enforcement purposes.
Notably under the Bill, people will be able to seek compensation in the Circuit Court for breaches of their data protection rights.
Only private-sector bodies will be exposed to fines under GDPR.
Public bodies will only be subject to fines when they are acting in competition with a private company.
