Call to Support Motorcycle Charity Fun Run

Motorbike enthusiasts are encouraged to join an estimated 300 bikers who will don their safety helmets on Sunday, June 8 for a Charity Motorcycle Fun Run in aid of the Irish Kidney Association. This event, which is organised by Laois based Argonauts MCC, is open to all clubs and individuals with an interest in participating and hopes to raise in excess of €6000 with all proceeds.

Motorbike enthusiasts are encouraged to join an estimated 300 bikers who will don their safety helmets on Sunday, June 8 for a Charity Motorcycle Fun Run in aid of the Irish Kidney Association.

This event, which is organised by Laois based Argonauts MCC, is open to all clubs and individuals with an interest in participating and hopes to raise in excess of €6000 with all proceeds going directly to the Irish Kidney Association, the organisation which supports kidney patients and also promotes and distributes the organ donor card in Ireland.

Speaking about the forthcoming event, Derek Dooley a founder member of Argonauts MCC, said: 'As a result of the success of last year's inaugural Charity Fun Run we decided to make this an annual event and will, for the second year in a row, pledge the proceeds from the event to the very worthy charity, the Irish Kidney Association.' Derek, a kidney transplant recipient, said that he 'hopes that this fundraiser, which promotes safe motorcycling as well as friendship and comradeship, will generate an increased awareness for organ donation and transplantation'.

The 120 mile approx. run will commence at the Esso Service Station, Borris-in-Ossory at 11am and will pass through the counties of Laois, Offaly, Tipperary and Kilkenny and will finish up some hours later at The Highway Inn, Ballaghmore, Co Laois where refreshments will be served. Supporting volunteer collectors will be at all the towns which the bikers will pass through on the way their final destination at the Highway Inn, Ballahmore, Co Laois ( A route map is featured on the Argonauts website).
