Blind and Deaf Groups Condemn 'Savage' Budget
Thousands of blind and deaf people are facing a serious cut in their pay, allowances and pensions due to Budget 2011.
The Irish Deaf Society (IDS) has stated that many deaf people would be impacted by the cut in the minimum wage, for example. The following article also details the cuts that the visually impaired are going to experience, including an €8 cut to the weekly blind pension and €180 reduction in annual tax credits to €1,650.
This arrives at a time when the support services, such as the IDS, that many deaf and blind people rely are undergoing severe funding cuts.
John Mangan of the IDS said that, many of the society's members live in rural areas and depend on these limited support services.
