Electronic Banking
EMTS is the AIB internet business banking file format for doing direct debits. In order to create direct debits with AIB electronically, their format, and therefore their internet business banking service is required.
Bank of Ireland have their own equivalent. BOI business banking on line uses different system - EFT for its direct debits. They also offer a desktop based software package to generate the necessary files- WINBITS.
Credit Cards

To trade online by accepting credit cards, you require a credit card merchant account with your bank and an account with a credit card processor - Realex and Worldpay both do recurring payments.
You will also find further value added services assocciated with a payments processor, e.g. an online credit card terminal. For example, Realex provide a service where you can administer recurring payments, both credit/debit card charges or bank account direct debits through their online terminal. They will also allow batched payments from your own inhouse system.
PayPal - also handle recurring payments. This is a feature of their premier and business accounts.
